Darn Good Yarn Subscription Box Review – Box 2
Are you ready for another Darn Good Yarn review? See my review of the first box here.
Darn Good Yarns is a company that specializes in recycled fibers. They have a Yarn of the Month Club that is either $20 per month or $10 with an annual subscription. I paid $10 for this box. For each month you receive a enough yarn for a small project, a gift, and patterns.
This review is of the second box you will receive if you are subscribed to the club. I received another beautiful box, this time in a bright blue color. The box is made of excellent construction and could easily be reused.

This box contained 50g or 50 yards of bulky weight yarn called Darn Good Fancy Twist Silk Yarn by Darn Good Yarns. You can purchase similar yarn here: Fancy Silk Twist. It is made of 100% recycled silk yarn. I got mine in the color Pink Flamingo. My yarn came in a cake. This is a multicolored yarn in shades of neon green, magenta pink, purple, and a hint of orange, all twisted together with a thick black yarn. The yarn is super soft and easy to work with.
The free gift is the Needle and Hook Case. On one side it says Darn Good Yarn in white and their slogan Start at Love, also in white, printed on black fabric. The back is black fabric and it has printed on it rows of very large knit stitches in red, orange, pink, and purple. The inside of the case is also black. The closure is a loop with a brown button.
This box also contained patterns for a Treasure Keeper Pouch with both knit and crochet versions.

THE BOX
YARN: Fancy Twist Silk Yarn, retail $15.99
GIFT: Needle and Hook Case, retail $8.99
PATTERNS: one knit, one crochet, retail $4.99 each
TOTAL VALUE: $34.96
On the website, this yarn retails for $15.99. The case was $8.99. I estimate a typical crochet and knit pattern to cost $4.99 each. Therefore, the total value of this box is $34.96.
For my reviews I always make the project included with the kit or box. Therefore, I made the crochet version of the Treasure Keeper Pouch. There was no gauge swatch so I used the recommended hook size of H. I could tell that I was not going to have enough yarn for all 17 rows. I ended up skipping row 17 so that I could still have enough yarn for the drawstring, and even then I ended up with a rather short drawstring. I still ended up with a beautiful and functional pouch!
Verdict: worth it!
I think even though I did not have enough yarn to complete the pattern as written, I still had a nice finished piece. I paid for the box myself, and this is my honest opinion. The value of what is in the box is more than the subscription price, the gift was really nice, and the project was fun to make. I would recommend Darn Good Yarn’s Yarn of the Month Club to any knitter or crocheter based on the contents and projects in the first two boxes.
